I Love Style Me Pretty

I check my favorite bridal blog (Style Me Pretty) every single day.  I probably would be ashamed to admit this, except I know by the comments some of the devout followers leave, I am not alone!  Here's a couple of images I want to share from today:

My dream cake would be five layers of deliciousness:

Also, I've thought of making some kind of guide for things to do in Grand Forks for the out-of-town travelers:

A Needless Burst of Creativity?

First off, I've been sick for the past couple of days.  All I have really done is lay around.  And when I have nothing else on my mind, I tend to think about wedding-related things.

So, that led me to look at invitations online.  I was inspired by some themed invitations for NYC and Chicago, and I took a stab at making my own (although North Dakota doesn't have nearly as fun of skyline as a big city does).

Here was the result:

It would probably  be perfect if I was having a rustic, barn-themed wedding.  Oh well.  I guess this is just what you come up with when you have too much time on your hands!

Hiding the Zipper

I am not overly fond of exposed zippers on wedding gown, so I came up with an idea to hide mine: crystal buttons.  I want to attach a few evenly-spaced crystal buttons above the bow to close off the zipper.  I'd like the buttons to be small and the kind you would button with a little loop.

So, good idea, or bad idea?  What do you think?

Alterations

Alterations kind of scare me.  Not because I don't want alterations, but because I'm counting on them for that "perfect" fit.  Wedding gowns are so heavy, and I don't want to be pulling it up all night.  I want the top to be REALLY tight and form-fitting to my body.  On "Say Yes to the Dress," they say the wedding gown is the tightest piece of clothing a woman will ever wear!  I just hope when I get alterations done they can make my gown stick to me so I don't have to feel self-conscious about it slipping down!

My wedding dress is just slightly too long in the front, so I'll require a tiny alteration to either pick-up the hem in another spot (a nice advantage of having a dress with pick-ups in the skirt) or completely hem the gown.  Plus, I'll need a bustle, and the dress will need to be steamed.

The final alteration I really want to make happen is adding a true sweetheart neckline.  I found a perfect example of one the other day:

I hope these alterations don't end up being too pricy!

Fun Wedding Mail

I am beginning to realize there is a huge market for wedding-related items.  Once I got engaged, I started noticing even Walmart and the Dollar Tree have wedding sections.  I now get 5-10 emails a day about honeymoon destinations, bridal party gifts, and invitations.  I've even started to receive wedding snail mail.

This past week, I got an Oriental Trading Company magazine exclusively for weddings.  The magazine was divided by color/theme.  I liked the black and white damask section the best!  I'm not sure I will buy anything from it, but they did have some cheap favor ideas.

Also, I've started to get my free subscription of Brides Magazine from the bridal expo.  Inside, I found a coupon for a free bridal makeup consultation and Clinique lip gloss if I create a Macy's registration.  I'm such a sucker for free things, so this is definitely on my to-do list!

In unrelated wedding news, I found a fabulous new apartment in Salem yesterday for when I begin my new job.  It's a studio apartment, complete with a Murphy bed, walk-in closet, and beautifully landscaped apartment grounds.  The apartment is only 4 years old and amazing.  Plus, I have access to a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, NICE gym, and business center.  The grocery store, Walmart, Dairy Queen, and gas stations are all within a mile away.  It's just what I wanted!
