In some ways it seems like it has taken forever to get to this point, but in other ways time has gone quickly.<br />
<br />
I have gone in to high-gear wedding planning mode, and I am steadily whittling away at my to-do list. Today I bought sparklers for the send-off, went with Lee to get our marriage license, finalized the decorating guides and agendas for everyone involved, filled out the photographers questionnaire/worksheet, bought a dress for the gift opening after the wedding, and completed the table assignments for the reception.<br />
<br />
There is still a long list of crafts to complete, meetings to attend, and items to buy. I feel I am taking it all in stride, and I'm somehow still enjoying every minute of it!<br />
<br />
I am SO incredibly excited to marry my best friend. I'm definitely looking forward to the wedding, but most of all, the marriage. :)CABhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09955187692658630389noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048387305800782516.post-72648323215488166542012-05-31T19:53:00.001-07:002012-05-31T19:53:34.951-07:00Another wedding!Today I picked up the bridesmaid dress I will be wearing for my friend Hilary's wedding, which happens to be the week after mine. I wasn't sure how I would feel about wearing a long bridesmaid dress, but I ended up liking it much more than I thought I would! <br />

I made escort card boxes and escort card shutters. The boxes can each hold 90 cards and the shutters can hold another 60. If we have 300 guests, there will be another 60 cards or so that will have to be set on the table in rows between the boxes. <br />

<br />
The most tedious part of this project was spray painting the boxes and shutters black. We got the shutters for $4 from the Re-Store, but they were ivory to begin with. I found the boxes at Good Will, but they started their life as brown cassette tape holders. After the painting ordeal was completed, it was only a matter of adhering the different ribbons to the holders! <br />
<br />
One of my last big projects left to do is make up the wedding programs. However, I can't make them until I have good guest-imate (haha, get it? instead of guesstimate?!) of the number of people who will be attending. So far of the nearly 325 people we have invited in the first round of invitations, only 110 people have responded that they are coming and 48 have sent in a "no" rsvp. I hope the rest of the bunch respond quickly; there is less than two weeks left until the rsvp deadline! I recently purchased a dress for my friend Stephanie's wedding this fall. She is giving the bridesmaids free reign, and we can pick whatever cream or beige dress we would like. She is having a vintage wedding, and she wanted each bridesmaid to find a feminine and flowy dress. I am very excited about the dress I found, and I am even more excited for their wedding this November.<br />

I realized I don't think I have yet shared the dress I will be wearing for the rehearsal dinner. I wanted to wear white for the rehearsal, and I found this dress at JC Penney for $40. The only problem was the smallest size the dress came in was still way too big for me, so I had to get it altered down to my size. The alterations did significantly add to the cost (they were more expensive than the dress!), but they were definitely worth it. The dress now fits like a glove.<br />

Speaking of the rehearsal dinner, Lee volunteered me to his family to make invitations for the rehearsal dinner. The wedding is quickly approaching! My wedding to-do list is definitely shortening, and now the bulk of the items left on it must be completed when I am home in June or immediately before the wedding.<br />
<br />
The invitations will be mailed out on Saturday from Bridal Veil, Oregon! Look for them coming soon to a mailbox near you. :) <br />
<br />
Tonight I worked on a framed wedding agenda and menu board. The agenda describes the order and timeline of events for the evening. The menu board spells out the food and dessert choices. <br />

<br />
<br />
I bought the frames for these projects at Goodwill and painted them each silver. I used the large format printers at Kinkos to print the agenda and menu I had created. If you have never used large format printing, you should try it. It is very cheap (printing each of these cost less than $4). They warn you before printing the quality may not be very good, but the quality of print is just fine in my opinion. I then adhered the prints to foam board from the dollar store using scotch tape. I probably spent around $15 for the entire project.<br />
<br />
While printing the menu and agenda at FedEx Kinkos this past weekend, I also printed out a large black and white congratulations poster and engagement picture, each measuring 3 feet by 4 feet. These will be used to cover up some wooden white board cupboards in our reception venue. The engagement picture turned out so nice that I may blow up some more engagement or wedding photos to decorate our home after the wedding! The invitations were printed on a heavy white shimmer cardstock. I think they look very timeless and classy. I am just glad all parties involved could finally agree on a design!<br />

<br />
I was slightly nervous about the envelope selection. I ended up going with the turquoise blue envelope so it would stand out when mailed. However, the color of the invitation ink ended up looking slightly lighter when printed. I wasn't sure if they matched closely enough, but the colors clearly look compatible when photographed. Most people throw the envelope away anyway, right? Do you think they look like they match? This was the inspiration for the turquoise envelopes, by the way:<br />

Still deciding on how I should style the labels! Any favorites? I would prefer to print the labels in black and white only to save money. As I found with my invitations, color printing is SUPER expensive!<br />
<br />
My invitations would be so much better with these laser-cut belly bands. Alas, they are much too expensive to even fathom purchasing:<br />

Lee and I have picked a song of the Jason Mraz album coming out in April. Both of us have liked Jason Mraz for a long time, and we think this is a beautiful song.<br />

<br />
In other wedding news, I bought a super cute white sequined dress for upcoming bachelorette festivities. I've started accumulating pictures for our wedding slideshow. I have a few projects that I am waiting until closer to the wedding to finish, including printing wedding programs, figuring out candy favors, and writing wedding vows. Also, Lee and I have been attending premarital counsling classes through our church in Portland. There are a handful of other items to work on, but the to-do list is becoming much more manageable. <br />

I want to make sure the guests have some small thing to entertain them while waiting, so I have made a couple of puzzles and fun games for the guests. <br />
<br />
I made a <a href="http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/CrissCrossSetupForm.asp">crossword puzzle</a>, a digital camera "I Spy," and a wedding mad libs. My favorite is the crossword puzzle. I took a picture of the one I printed out and solved:<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oops, I forgot to fill in one of the answers!</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
One puzzle/game will be placed at each person's spot at the reception, and I will print out a few extras in case people would like to try their hand at more than one. I hope the guests enjoy completing their puzzles while waiting for their food!CABhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09955187692658630389noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048387305800782516.post-28432486828776303222012-01-26T18:57:00.000-08:002012-01-26T18:57:15.692-08:00A Fun SurpriseI got fun package in the mail today with a gift intended for my bridesmaids! I couldn't resist packaging them up immediately. Hmm...I wonder what could be inside? Guess they will have to wait 169 days to find out! <br />

<br />
For our ceremony, we made decisions on songs and readings. The parents, grandparents, and bridal party will be walking down the aisle Air on the G String by Bach.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/E2j-frfK-yg?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
I will be walking down the aisle to this version of the wedding march:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/PsGd0t41Jhw?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
This song will be our special music during the lighting of the unity candles:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/fNKsVDOC758?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
And we will be walking up the aisle as a married couple to this song!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/E0oyglKjbFQ?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
My brother will be doing our readings. Here are the readings from the Bible we have chosen:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Jeremiah 29:11-13 </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
“plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 Corinthians 13:1-8</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all
knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but do not
have love, I am nothing. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but do not have love, I gain nothing. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love is patient, love is kind. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love never fails. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
A couple of other fun things. I got Lee's pocket square in the mail this weekend. They did not have pocket square in our color at Mens Wearhouse, so I had to order online. I ended up getting a good deal; the pocket square, with shipping, was under $10!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc-1tFyUotQAg6a-dXOCM8OkngUloLCM20_S70hoyGzObJEuHi28Za6ZB9GzX8_dF5Q8fc032vDcft5rmQSmChaH7FRV-Rh8LqPkMet-V3he6EocHcGVJNt59zjQiAWUaYBenHYNV-_4g/s1600/Weekend+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc-1tFyUotQAg6a-dXOCM8OkngUloLCM20_S70hoyGzObJEuHi28Za6ZB9GzX8_dF5Q8fc032vDcft5rmQSmChaH7FRV-Rh8LqPkMet-V3he6EocHcGVJNt59zjQiAWUaYBenHYNV-_4g/s400/Weekend+002.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lee will wear this in his tuxedo's pocket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I also was able to work on the wedding invitation suite, since I am designing my own. This picture is kind of blurry, but you can get the general idea. There will be two pages sent with our invite. The first will be the invitation and the second will be the information and a detachable RSVP postcard. The third page you see is the back side of the information/RSVP postcard. To RSVP, guests will detach the pre-stamped bottom portion of the second page on a perforated line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixFWNBC-cxc7-TrWD7as-UzmVKvICdWxBS3ygY3I1TdJZmIMt2vWkpf_4gEAf5ZvLcPskoA2FvPWisVoNxA4P1rXa6o29-Qeb-Q5JfZtD-Wrpfcx1hvHcUNLlDjrxy5F6MRo-VB3ODd-g/s1600/Weekend+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixFWNBC-cxc7-TrWD7as-UzmVKvICdWxBS3ygY3I1TdJZmIMt2vWkpf_4gEAf5ZvLcPskoA2FvPWisVoNxA4P1rXa6o29-Qeb-Q5JfZtD-Wrpfcx1hvHcUNLlDjrxy5F6MRo-VB3ODd-g/s640/Weekend+004.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We are going to print the invites on white or cream shimmer paper. I would like to either tie something around the 2 pages or put a belly band around them to keep them together. The tie or band could be turquoise to introduce our color scheme. <br />
<br />
Here is one last wedding project we started but did not finish this weekend: escort cards. We are going to be making wax seals to put on each escort card. Lee's mom does calligraphy, and we are going to have her write them out for us. Here is our inspiration and our tester card:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Inspiration</td></tr>

<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW7GoEF3klu0sn9PI_TxNFviT1mKne9hiDb3p7yiUcPMzQZpktjxjBJijs6b_hfwWR3L2EThS1uHFN9VHTzobMb79K7LL-SoCfEONuewk5dNnAOomHahWYUCQyEfgECxnpn57mefPNSvg/s1600/Weekend+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW7GoEF3klu0sn9PI_TxNFviT1mKne9hiDb3p7yiUcPMzQZpktjxjBJijs6b_hfwWR3L2EThS1uHFN9VHTzobMb79K7LL-SoCfEONuewk5dNnAOomHahWYUCQyEfgECxnpn57mefPNSvg/s400/Weekend+006.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This seal has wedding bells, but we also bought a wax stamp with hearts</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
We didn't use real wax to make our version. We used hot glue, a wax stamp, and silver spray paint to achieve the same effect. We found the cards at the dollar store in packs of 50 for 25 cents a piece. The back of a card will have a printed off sticker designating which tables the person can sit at. We will not be having individual seating place cards, but these will serve as a guideline so family can sit closer to the head table. <br />
<br />
Lots of to-do list items were conquered this weekend! I love crossing things off my list. <br />

And according to my multiple shopping lists, there is still quite a bit of spending left to do. <br />
<br />
Lee and I have been searching for the perfect tie for our ushers, and we thought we had finally found "the one." <br />

Alas, it was not meant to be. We initially only found three in the store, so we decided to order four of the ties online and have them shipped to Lee's parents' house in North Dakota over Christmas. The ties arrived, but only two of the ties in the package were the same; the other two ties were similar colors but different designs. Even though they were all different ties, the brand had decided to give similarly colored ties the same UPC number. <br />
<br />
We promptly went to the Grand Forks Macys, were we only found one more of the ties. We exchanged one of the wrong ties for the one in the store, and we ordered one more tie, crossing our fingers they would send us the correct one. They didn't. <br />
<br />
Back to Macys we went, this time going to the Portland store where we first spotted the ties. They no longer had the ties in the store, but they told us there may be some in the Salem stores. Today I checked out one of the Macys stores. I thought I found the correct tie, purchased it, and then took it home to compare to the original. It was the wrong tie. Same colors, slightly different design. <br />
<br />
I have one more store to check, but Lee and I may be back to square one in our tie search. <br />
<br />
In better news, I found my bridal jewelry! Over Christmas, I went shopping with my sister and found a bling-y necklace. The necklace is similar in shape to the one below, but the stones on my necklace are not random, but symmetrically designed. <br />

I didn't like the earrings that came with the necklace, so I have been looking for earrings that would complement the style and shape of the necklace. Today I found them! Kohls just happened to have earrings that will perfectly match the necklace. Plus, all of Kohls' jewelry was on sale this week. <br />

I also purchased a veil to wear for my ceremony! I wanted a beaded, two-tier, mid-length veil, and I am very happy with the purchase I made. The veil wasn't something I was too picky about since I will only be wearing it for the ceremony. I may also put it on for a couple of pictures prior to the ceremony. <br />
<br />
I did not take any pictures when I tried the veil on yesterday, but I do have a picture from the company. I will not wear the veil as far forward on my head as it shows in the picture, so the veil will fall a few inches below my waistline instead of at the waist. Please ignore the scary doll modeling the veil. She's freaky-looking.<br />

Last week especially was a whirlwind of wedding craziness. I guess as long as I am not going crazy, we're fine!<br />
<br />
Last week was good, in spite of how much needed to be done. Lee and I met with both the reception and the groom's dinner venues for taste testing. Right now, it looks like we will be having a buffet of roast beef and chicken pasta for the groom's dinner, with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. Lee's aunt will be making us (another) cake for dessert. For the wedding reception, we will be having a buffet of garden salad, dinner rolls, lemon pepper chicken, roasted pork loin, a vegetarian Alfredo pasta, baby red potatoes, and green beans almondine. We will be having wedding cake for dessert, of course!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0wMI_0jJVN4/TwT3D7BdfYI/AAAAAAAAAlU/6vbk_n8NZWc/s1600/Eagles+Crest+Golf+Course+Grand+Forks+Kings+Walk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0wMI_0jJVN4/TwT3D7BdfYI/AAAAAAAAAlU/6vbk_n8NZWc/s400/Eagles+Crest+Golf+Course+Grand+Forks+Kings+Walk.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>

It was very interesting visiting with the reception venue and the church venue again. Both venues have imposed quite a few stipulations that were not in place when we first booked them last winter. The reception venue has raised all of its prices and changed parts of the contract. In spite of the price increases, my parents are going to be graciously purchasing 2 kegs of beer and 15-20 bottles of wine for the reception. However, we are going to do away with hors d'oeuvres, since the prices have drastically increased for fruit and vegetables platters. Another bummer about the reception venue: if there ends up being a Friday event before our wedding, we can only start decorating at 10 AM the morning of the wedding. A good thing about the reception venue: much of the hotel is undergoing renovations. The pool area has already been redone, and most of the guestrooms have been redone as well. <br />
<br />
Meeting with the church was fairly straightforward, but we were told we would not be able to move anything major on or off the stage. For example, if the piano is on the stage, we have to leave it there. If the piano is off the stage, we have to leave it off the stage. Luckily, Lee's parents know the guy who is in charge of decorating the stage, so hopefully we will have some say in how we want the stage to look. We can still decorate the stage with any small items, including flowers, lighted trees, and candles. Luckily, we can start decorating the church on the Friday before the wedding. <br />
<br />
I also was able to have my gown fitting. This was definitely one of the highlights of my week. I am using Emily's pageant gown seamstress who is SUPER talented to alter my dress. She was very meticulous, which I loved. I think she might even be more detail-oriented than I am! She also had some great ideas for the bustle and hiding the zipper on the back of the dress. <br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
I was able to go shopping in Fargo with Becca and Lisa to help Becca pick out her bridesmaid dress. Becca was the final bridesmaid to choose her dress. I am happy to report that there were five different styles chosen between all six bridesmaids! They are going to look fabulous! <br />
<br />
Finally, Lee and I went attended a wedding last week. The wedding was gorgeous and very well done. It was also probably double my current wedding budget! This bride and groom did not skimp on any details. Since it was a great wedding, I will be taking a couple of ideas from this wedding to use in my own. For example, I loved the use of uplighting at the reception and the votive candles all around the room. At the Dollar Tree (my favorite wedding retailer...haha), Lee and I found 50-packs of escort cards for 25 cents each. We plan to dress them up a bit, but that will be a later post.<br />
<br />
Right now, I want you to contemplate the pictures below and tell me which escort cards display is your favorite. Recall that we have to display around 300 of them. They will be alphabetized, of course, because we want people to easily and quickly find their name.<br />

I wanted something simple and narrower than my actual garter. I wanted the real garter and the toss garter to match somewhat, and I also wanted to incorporate my "something blue" if possible.<br />

<br />
Last night, I was cruising through the dollar store to pick up a few things when I spotted the perfect item to use for my toss garter. It looks like many of the toss garters I have seen online as part of bridal garter sets. Of course I had to add my own little DIY touch to it by including a turquoise blue hand-stitched label on the inside. <br />

I didn't want you to judge, so I saved this piece of information for last: guess what I used for my toss garter? A baby headband! The baby headband even came with two little matching hair clips. Surprisingly, it fits my leg perfectly. For the two garters together, I have spent around $5. I love being a frugal bride.CABhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09955187692658630389noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048387305800782516.post-14394457888926542342011-12-14T19:15:00.000-08:002011-12-14T19:15:26.235-08:00Reception Chair PlaquesHere's the newest project! <br />
<br />
For this craft, I bought clearance wood plates for a few dollars a piece from Michaels. I covered each plate with white acrylic paint. I then used the printer ink transfer technique described <a href="http://diddledumpling.blogspot.com/2010/05/tutorial-vintage-looking-painted-sign.html">here</a> to apply the letters. I painted the words "bride" and "groom" turquoise, but I left the monogram and date as is. I used leftover silver roping (remnants from my <a href="http://ribbonsruffles.blogspot.com/2011/12/diy-card-box.html">card box project</a>, but originally from the Dollar Tree's Christmas section) to attach the plaques to the chairs. <br />
<br />
My only regrets on this project are that I didn't perfectly straighten the writing so it matches up with the points of the plaques and the turquoise lettering isn't perfect due to having a big paintbrush and shaky hands. Oh well. Not too many people will be looking at the backs of our chairs at the reception. Honestly, this project is probably only going to be good for one or two pictures, but it's a fun wedding craft I wanted to complete. Also, when playing around with it, I found as long as the writing is parallel
with the floor, you don't really notice the crookedness. What do you think?CABhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09955187692658630389noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048387305800782516.post-43652488623055010582011-12-13T15:44:00.000-08:002011-12-13T15:44:07.088-08:00Busy BeeNorth Dakota Christmas To Do List:<br />

This one was a quick one. I didn't really care to spend too much time making the unity candle for the ceremony, and I think going the simple route worked well anyway. All this project took was a Walmart candle, leftover ribbon, my computer/printer/paper, and scotch tape. Tah dah!<br />

You will notice I "tested" the candle. I wanted to make sure the wick would light on the big day! I've never heard any bad luck stories about pre-lit unity candles, but I have heard funny stories of unity candles that would not light!CABhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09955187692658630389noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048387305800782516.post-34375462378619147972011-12-05T22:31:00.001-08:002011-12-05T22:38:27.974-08:00DIY Card BoxA quick project! I got all of the supplies this weekend, and I just finished the project tonight. This has also been one of my favorite projects to work on. The pictures make the card box look deceivingly small, so I included our framed guestbook instructions (which are 8"x10") in the second photo. <br />
